CAMPING

Troop 1313 enjoys several camping and fishing trips each year to Virginia, Maryland, and West Virginia locations. The troop also attends a week-long camp each summer, usually at the end of June. In addition, Scoutmasters organize trips to BSA high adventure camps each year on a rotating basis.  Troop 1313 crews have attended Northern Tier (Atikokan, Candada), Sea Base (the Florida Keys and the Bahamas), and the "granddaddy of high adventure" Philmont Scout Ranch (New Mexico).  Several troop members have earned the Boy Scout "Triple Crown" award (attending all three High Adventure camps).

CAMPING & FISHING TRIPS

Troop 1313 conducts five-six overnight camping trips a year, which usually includes two fishing trips (May and October), one backpacking trip (fall or winter), and two-three "regular" camping trips.

Scouts also have the opportunity to sleep in a tent or dorm-style bunk house during February's "merit badge weekend" at Camp Fraiser (Great Falls, VA).  We encourage all scouts to attend summer camp, as it is a fun way to advance in rank or earn merit badges.  It's also a great character-building experience.  For Scouts 14 years or older, High Adventures are the ultimate adventure in Boy Scouts.

SUMMER CAMP

Each year Troop 1313 spends six days and nights at a regional summer camp. Summer camp is a great, and fun, way to advance in rank and earn merit badges.  It's not unusual for Scouts to complete 4-5 badges in a week, or have multiple "partials" which they complete at home.

With so many good summer camps within reasonable driving distance, the troop usually attends a different summer camp every 1-2 years.

Past camps visited include Heritage Scout Reservation (PA), Goshen Scout Camp (VA), Camp Mountaineer (WV), and Goose Pond Scout Reservation (PA).

HIGH ADVENTURE

From the aquatic adventures of Florida Seat Base to the canoeing challenge of Northern Tier, from the backpacking expeditions at Philmont Scout Ranch to the adventure sports programs at The Summit Bechtel Reserve, these experiences will shape you and teach you about yourself.

Northern Tier Closing Campfire Song 2012

Summer 2012, after the challenging portage trails and hours of paddling, Troop 1313 Scouts (and John Westenhoff from Troop 1577) attending Northern Tier created a song that reflects the experience of the trip and performed it at the closing campfire for the canoe trip in Canada.
